Interconnected movement is a practice to help you support movements using your core muscles and your core values. Be attentive and take time to rest. Slow down, draw attention inward to embody the vast interconnections between your breath and your inner and outer movements. This is a practice is based in South Asian yoga traditions and informed by Qi Gong and other Martial Arts, the science of biomechanics and anatomy or kinesthetic trains. Interconnected movements are for everybody!
Carol Collins has been teaching since 1994 when she received her Master's Degree in Education. She adapts her teaching to her students, encouraging somatic and kinesthetic learning through modeling, layered and ecclectic language, and feedback while students move. She also uses visual slides to further students' understanding of their bodies. She uses props, focuses on core muscles to align structures and takes time to guide people into their experience of their unique breath, body, energetic wholeness, and fullness of life. Every class ends with stillness and relaxation.
One on one sessions include back and forth dialogue.
Carol is constantly learning about anatomy and anatomy trains, biomechanics, yoga, Qi Gong and martial arts, power of the breath, and most recently embodied social justice work. She is personnally working toward both individual and collective liberation and hopes to collaborate more with those who share these goals.
Carol Collins received Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training at Tranquil Space Yoga Studio in DC in 2002 and earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the Rhode Island Ave YMCA. She is Yoga Alliance Registered E-RYT 500 and practices FUNctional movement daily. Teachers of influence include: Aaron H. Levine, Judith Lasater, Julie Gulmestad, Gina Sager, Anodea Judith, Tias Little, Ana Forrest, Stephen Cope, Doug Keller, Tom Myers, Leslie Howard, Katy Bowman, Meghan Davis, Jenni Otto, Nikki Meyers, Pema Chrodron, Tara Brach, Jon Kabat-Zin, Darren Main, Amy Hilton, Rev angel Kyodo williams, Marisa Cranfill, Kimberly Wilson, Kevin Waldorf Cruz, Anne Thiel, Siobhan Troy-Carranza, Danielle Polen and many more from the Tranquil Space Teacher’s Collective (TSTC)
Carol work is mostly with middle-aged and older folks, building relationships where she can teach greater interoception, structural alignment, mindful movement, movement from core muscles, increased balance, relaxation, breathwork, pain relief, myofascial release, and pelvic floor health. She guides people into relaxation and healing through yoga nidra, body scans and breathwork/pranayama. Relaxation techniques can help with insomnia, manage pain and can ground us in love in order to access our unique path to liberation. Carol worked for 18 years with postpartum moms and babies during those crucial first 6 months.
Carol is an active learner in anti-racist spaces including SURJ DC . She is a active member of All Souls Church Unitarian.
